What exactly is a frozen shoulder, will my shoulder actually freeze?
The answer is No for freezing, but your shoulder may not move with expected flexibility. What happens here is that since you may feel some inflexibility in moving your shoulder and it may pain while moving, you will gradually stop moving it. Hence, it will start developing something called as scar tissues which will prevent moving your shoulder. Here are the Various stages of Periarthritis Frozen Shoulder:

Pain stage: The initial stage, where you feel pain and less of flexibility in movement. Stiffness may also be felt and may get very painful at times. Typically, this stage may last from 3 to 8 months.

Adhesive stage: This is the next, where the pain reduces compared to the first stage, but the stiffness increasses significantly. This is a crucial stage because you dont pay attendtion to it. Since it does not pain and infact your pain reduces compared to the first stage, you feel that you are getting better. But what you may not notice is the stiffness and the problems that will gradually deteriorate. This stage usually lasts about 4 to 6 months.

Recovery stage: The final stage, which usually lasts about 1 to 3 months, isn't very painful. Movement becomes difficult, and stiffness starts to go away. You can move your shoulder again. Although you may not get the full movement of your shoulder back, you should be able to do many more activities. As your shoulder movement increases, you may still have pain at times.
