Cervical Cancer is classified into the following 4 stages, though there are wub stages within each of the stages, they are referred with A, B nomenclature.
--Stage 0 of Cervical Cancer - This is the initial stage of Cervical Cander. It involves full-thickness of the epithelium. However, since this is the initial stage, it does not invade into the stroma. It is also medically termed as "carcinoma in situ" stage. In simple language, the Cervical Cancer cells have not yet invaded the inner tissues, but they are only at the surface.
--Stage I of Cervical Cancer - This is the stage where the Cervical Cancer Cells enter the Cervix but are known to be limited to it. Hence, the cancer though developed, has not yet started spreading.
Stage IA of Cervical Cancer - diagnosis can be done only by a microscope; no visible signs
Stage IA1 of Cervical Cancer - stromal invasion area is of the size smaller than 3 mm in depth and 7 mm or less in horizontal spread
Stage IA2 of Cervical Cancer - stromal invasion between 3 and 5 mm with horizontal spread of 7 mm or less
Stage IB of Cervical Cancer - visible lesion or a microscopic lesion with more than 5 mm of depth or horizontal spread of more than 7 mm
Stage IB1 of Cervical Cancer - visible lesion 4 cm or less in greatest dimension
Stage IB2 of Cervical Cancer - visible lesion has become greater than 4 cm
--Stage II of Cervical Cancer - In is in this stage, that the Cervical Cancer Cells start spreading outside the Cervix. However, they still remain confined to the Pelvic region. As this stage goes on, there are more advancements in several sub-stages of Cervical Cancer as follows:
Stage IIA of Cervical Cancer - Top two third part of the vagina is affected. The lower one third part is not affected. There is no parametrial invasion.
Stage IIB of Cervical Cancer - The parametrial tissue is invaded.
--Stage III of Cervical Cancer - This stage marks the invasion of the lower third part of teh vagina. Here the cervix extends to pelvic walls:
Stage IIIA of Cervical Cancer - affects lower one third part of vagina
Stage IIIB of Cervical Cancer - affects pelvic wall. ALong with that urine flow from bladder/kidney is also blocked or affected.
--Stage IV of Cervical Cancer - This is the most advanced stage of the Cervical Cancer. It is here when the Cervical Cancer spreads to other body parts and has the most damaging effects.
Stage IVA of Cervical Cancer - Cancer cells invades bladder or rectum and/or extends beyond true pelvis
Stage IVB of Cervical Cancer - Incurable Stage of Cervical Cancer. The cancer spreads to distant parts like lungs, etc. Not curable stage of Cervical Cancer.
