What is dental floss?
Dental floss is a type of thread which is used to clean the tooth in inter dental areas
What are inter dental areas-
- Tooth is having four five surfaces
- Surface of tooth which is in the contact of other tooth is known as proximal surface
- And the area in between this tooth is known as inter dental area
- Dental floss is used to clean that surface and area
How can we use dental floss-

- It is very easy to use the dental floss
- Initially patient may feel some problem in using dental floss but in few days he will easily learn it
- First we take a small part of floss
- Then we will hold it in both ends of floss
- We will hold it in between index finger and thumb
- Now we will press it in the area between two teeth
- We will keep it on the surface of one tooth and will pull it up ward on that surface
- In next step we will do the same for the other tooth surface
- In the mean time we will try to take the floss below the gingival to clean the plaque on that area
Advantages of using floss regularly-
- It removes the plaque from the tooth surface which tooth brush can not remove
- It can remove the plaque which is present below the gingival
- If plaque will not deposit then there will be no chance for tarter deposition
Precaution taken at the time of flossing-
In flossing person should apply force away from the gingival other wise gingival can be injured
